Mutai Wins 3,000 Meter Steeplechase at John McDonnell Invitational

 

FAYETEVILLE, Ark. - Daniel Mutai earned his first title of the outdoor season against stiff competition from around the country Saturday at the John McDonnell Invitational hosted by Arkansas.

Mutai clocked a 9:06.07 in the 3,000 meter steeplechase to defeat the 12 man field which consisted of competitors from Oklahoma, Tulsa, Drury and Arkansas. He defeated runner-up Patrick Gomez by nearly two seconds.

His time is the second lowest in the Sun Belt Conference this season. Mutai also owns the best time in the Sun Belt in the 5,000-meter run following his finish at the Texas Relays (14:26.52).
