Springer Claims Gold in Javelin at Mississippi Open

The Nicholls State University women's track and field team is continuing to perform well in meets, claiming at least one gold medal in every meet so far, this time coming from Jaimee Springer who placed first in the women's javelin throw as many Colonels set new personal bests at the Mississippi Open this weekend.

The Colonels took two of the top three spots in the javelin throw, as Springer's throw of 43.41 meters (142-05) put her just ahead of the second place finisher, as Aja Scott finished third in the event with a throw of 42.92 meters (140-10). Anna Foulds finished tenth in the event with a throw of 34.26 meters (112-05).

Kryshell Rolle finished sixth in the 400-meter hurdles, but in the process set another school record for the second-straight meet, reaching the end in 1:02.39, .6 seconds faster than she ran last week at Northwestern State.

Jackie White continued her string of strong meets with a fourth place finish in the 800-meter run, reaching the finish in 2:15.76, while Tessni Carruthers improved her personal best time with an eighth place finish in 2:16.59. Ashley Johnson did the same, clocking in at 2:17.40 for 12th place.

The women's 4x100-meter relay team finished fifth in the race in a time of 47.29 seconds, .5 seconds out of finishing fourth, while the 4x400-meter relay team finished ninth in 3:51.91.

Sarah Pressley finished sixth in the 5000-meter run, also setting a personal best in crossing the tape in 19:32.89, while Emily Carrere finished 12th in 21:34.03.

Barlitra Dirance finished seventh in the 200-meter dash, setting a new personal best with a time of 24.88 seconds, while Quadri Newson finished tenth in 25.14 seconds.

Ingvild Vedde finished ninth overall in the 1500-meter run, crossing the tape in 4:43.92 in the first heat, which was the eighth best time in her flight. Barlitra Dirance and Alexandra Martin finished eighth in their heats of the 400-meter dash, while Victoria Williams finished fourth in hers. Dirance's time of 56.88 was 15th among 55 entrants.

Newson finished fifth in her heat of the 100-meter dash, crossing the tape in 12.31 seconds for the 15th best time overall.

The team will be back in action next weekend, participating in the Southeastern Lion Invitational next Friday.
