NATCHITOCHES, La. –
Brittany Pfantz set a new Lady Lion outdoor record in the pole vault Friday and she joined two other Southeastern Louisiana athletes as event winners at the Leon Johnson NSU Invitational in Natchitoches, La.

Jessica Fekete won the women's hammer throw (171 feet, one inch) and Abram Taylor set a personal record as he took first in the men's 110-meter hurdles (14.41 seconds).

Pfantz vault a distance of (13-01.75) to break the school record she tied last week at the Texas Relays.

Despite setting a new school record, the successes were not as numerous as head coach Sean Brady would have liked.

“We didn't have a terrific day, but we did have some positives,” Brady said. “It was a good meet from a competitive standpoint.”

Nia Stewart had a strong day sprinting and jumping for the Lady Lions.

Stewart finished second in the women's long jump (18-05.00) and third in the women's 100-meter dash (12.08 sec.). Ikea Kaufman finished second (5-03.00) and Diana Marcantel third (5-01.00) in the women's high jump.

Alicia Noel finished third in the women's 400-meter hurdles (1:02.67) and Shalicia Rochon finished third in the women's shot put (46-00.00).

“We put our young folks in a position to do well and some of them showed up,” Brady said. “

Sophomore Tavarus Mack set a personal record in the men's 400-meter hurdles (53.86) and finished third.

Other top performances for the Lions included a second place finish in the pole vault for Kovey Simmons (17-00.75), and third place finishes for T.J. Herbert in the 200-meter dash (21.58 sec.), Johnel Reams in the men's high jump (6-02.75) and Phillippe Moore in the men's long jump (23-02.00)

“Overall it was good meet, but not a great meet,” Brady said. “We still have some concerns with our young athletes.”
