Weather Shortens Final Day of Aztec Invitational

SAN DIEGO - Mother Nature wasn't friendly to the Tulane track and field program on the final day of the 2012 Aztec Invitational. Severe weather around the San Diego State Sports Deck shortened the Saturday (March 17) program, but six Green Wave competitors were able to compete in the outdoor opener.

Kasey Rodgers claimed the top collegiate time in the 100 meter event as the senior covered the straightaway in 11.91 seconds. The mark was run with a wind reading of 4.8, which would make that a wind aided mark, according to the NCAA. It might have been the team's opening meet of the outdoor season, but it was the first competition for Rodgers since Jan. 21, 2012 when she ran at the Cherry and Silver Indoor.

Raquelle Collins jumped in the college long jump invitational event and grabbed an 11th place showing. The senior claimed her longest jump of the afternoon when she jumped 5.27-meters on her opening attempt. It was the fifth best mark by a collegiate jumper, with six professionals in the field, as well. Collins also posted jumps of 5.14-meters and 5.22-meters before the weather arrived.

The men's and women's 400-meter events were also competed, with two competitors taking part in each race.Jon Frano and Christopher Arechiga finished third and fourth, respectively, in the men's race. The duo both competed in the final heat of the race, with Frano posting a time of 50.26 to win the heat and Arechiga breaking the tape in 50.64 to finish second.

Jamie Riles and Tiffanie Smith each competed in the final heat of the women's race, finishing 13th and 22nd overall. Riles crossed the finish line in 60.32 and Smith covered the distance in 61.90.
