Carruthers Takes Gold at Louisiana Classics

LAFAYETTE, La. – The Nicholls State University women's track team wrapped up their first meet on Saturday at the Louisiana Classics hosted by ULL, and Tessni Carruthers earned the first individual gold medal of the season in the women's 1500-meter run event.

Carruthers and Colgate's Chelsea Burns crossed the tape at the exact same time of 4:34.40 to finish in the top spot in the event. Carruthers is now third all-time at Nicholls in the event.

Kryshell Rolle and Sarah Pressley each took home fifth place finishes on the afternoon, as Rolle placed in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:04.48, while Pressley finished the 5000-meter run in 19:33.32. Rolle's time is third best ever at Nicholls, while Pressley's is sixth.

Jaimee Springer finished sixth in the javelin throw, having her best throw of the afternoon coming on her fourth attempt, with a distance of 43.42 meters (142-05). Jackie White finished seventh in the 800-meter run event, crossing the tape in 2:18.77.

The last top ten finish for the Colonels on the day came in the 4x100-meter relay, as the Colonels took sixth overall with a time of 48.59 seconds.

The Colonels will be back in action next week, participating in the Alabama Relays, hosted by the University of Alabama.
