Day 1 results
HAMMOND – A mixed effort Friday has the Southeastern Louisiana track and field program playing catch up heading into the second day of the Southland Conference Indoor Championships in Norman, Okla.
“It was a mixed bag,” Brady said. “We had some good and not so good things happen.”
Southeastern's men are in ninth place and the Lady Lions are tenth after the first day of competition in the scored meet.
“Our male sprinters in the 60 and 200 meters qualified for the finals and
Shaquell Windley is in good position in the 400 meter prelims.”
Windley set a school record with a time of 49.15 seconds in the men's 400-meter dash and qualified for the finals with a fifth-place finish.
Shannon Grover turned in the best overall performance for the Lions as he finished second in the preliminaries for both the 60-meter (6.79) and 200-meter dash (21.74).
T.J. Herbert placed ninth in the 60 (6.90) and third in the 200 (21.94).
Kovey Simmons (5.05 meters) and
Vance Law (4.75 meters) finished fourth and sixth respectively in the men's pole vault.
For the Lady Lions,
Nia Stewart finished seventh in the women's 60-meter dash preliminaries, qualifying for the finals, and set the Southeastern indoor record (7.57).
Freshman
Ikea Kaufman finished fourth in the women's high jump (1.65 meters).
Action begins at 8:30 a.m. on day two with finals for the remaining heptathlon events.
“Our women's vaulters are going to be big for us and we should pick up some points in the women's shot put,” Brady said. “We've got to have a better effort from our younger athletes and hope our stronger athletes continue to perform well.”
