HAMMOND – With the Southland Conference Indoor Championships just a week away the Southeastern Louisiana track and field program will squeeze in one last chance to compete and qualify athletes Friday at the LSU Twilight meet in Baton Rouge, La.
“It's just 45 minutes down the road and there is tremendous competition,” head coach
Sean Brady said. “The field is going to be really soaked with talent. Our athletes will have the chance to face Olympians, medalists and world champion-type competitors.”
The LSU meet is the last chance for a few non-qualifier Southeastern athletes to qualify for the Southland's postseason meet Feb. 24-25 in Norman, Okla.
“Most of our athletes that are going to get qualified are,” Brady said. “We only have a few that aren't. This is primarily a tune-up meet.”
With entry limits and limited events Southeastern will only bring 35 athletes to the meet, but Brady said the experience will benefit his underclassmen.
“It's a chance for some of our young athletes to see the elite, the people they're aspiring to be,” Brady said.
Competition begins at 12:30 p.m. in the Carl Maddox Field House.
