Track & Field Wraps Up Action at Texas Tech Open

 

LUBBOCK, Texas - The ULM track & field squads turned in a solid performance Saturday at the Texas Tech Indoor Open inside the Athletic Training Center. The ULM men turned in eight top-five performances on the day while the women turned in two.

Senior Luther Ambrose opened his indoor season with a fifth-place finish in the men's 55-meter dash. After posting the fastest qualifying time, Ambrose clocked a time of 6.36 in the finals. Shavez Hart of South Plains CC won the event with a time of 6.34.

Junior Daniel Mutai had a pair of top-five finishes as he placed second in the 3,000-meter run (8:28.59) and fourth in the 1-mile run (4:20.32).

Senior Josh Howard had a best leap of 14.81 meters to take third place in the men's triple jump. Senior Derek Dark added a fourth-place finish in the men's shot put with a throw of 16.18 meters.

Junior Devin Caldwell put forth a solid effort in the men's 800-meter run as he finished third with a time of 1:56.10.

In addition, senior Jarvis Mansfield finished fifth in the men's 55-meter hurdles (7.57), junior Clint Broussard tied for sixth in the men's high jump (1.94 meters) and senior Keyon Jones turned in a fourth-place finish in the men's long jump (7.10 meters).

On the women's side, freshman Tyreca Jackson placed fifth in the women's 800-meter run (2:21.40) and the women's 4X400-meter relay team ran to a third-place finish with a time of 3:56.52.

Both squads will be back in action next weekend as they travel to Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark. The
