Lion, Lady Lion Multi-Event Athletes Gain Valuable Experience

Running on the banked track in Arkansas State's Convocation Center Friday, three Southeastern Louisiana athletes gained the experience needed to aid in further competition while competing on day one of the ASTATE Invitational in Jonesboro, Ark.

Sammuel Abboud finished sixth in the men's heptathlon (2,228 points) while Lady Lions Diana Marcantel and Hailey Callahan placed eighth (2,866 pts.) and 11th (2,608 pts.), respectively, in the women's pentathlon.

In the individual events competition Abboud finished fifth in the 55-meter dash (6.93 seconds), and sixth in the long jump (5.89 meters, 19 feet-04.00 inches), shot put (8.66 m, 28-05.00) and high jump (1.67 m, 5-05.75). The 55-meter hurdles, pole vault and 1000-meter run will commence on day two of the meet.

Marcantel recorded one of Southeastern's best efforts of the day placing second in the pentathlon's high jump competition (1.59 m, 5-02.50). She finished eight in the 55-meter run (8.97 sec.), 12th in the shot put (8.10 m, 26-07.00), ninth in the long jump (4.86 m, 15-11.50) and 14th in the 800-meter run (2:54.87).

Callahan also recorded a second-place finish with a time of 2:33.24 in the 800-meter run. She finished 12th in the 55-meter run (9.52 sec.), 13th in the high jump (1.35 m, 4-05.00), 10th in the shot put (8.45 m, 27-08.75) and 13th in the long jump (4.33 m, 14-02.50).

The meet will resume on Saturday at 9 a.m. with the conclusion of the men's heptathlon. Field and running events are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. with the finals of the running events set to start at 2 p.m.
