HAMMOND – Southeastern head track and field coach
Sean Brady announced Wednesday the program's upcoming 2011-12 indoor and outdoor season schedules.
Indoor competition kicks off Friday in Jonesboro, Ark., with the first of four regular season meets, the ASU Kickoff Klassic. The Lions and Lady Lions will also compete at UAB's Blazer Invite in January as well as the Jeff Davis Bank McNeese Indoor II and the LSU Twilight.
The Southland Conference Indoor Championships (Feb. 24-25), scheduled for Norman, Okla., and the NCAA Qualifying meet at LSU (March 2), offer additional chances to qualify for the NCAA Indoor Championships.
Overlapping the indoor postseason will be the first outdoor meet of the 2012 schedule. Southeastern athletes will compete in the Tulane Team Challenge (March 1) to kick off the outdoor season.
Two of the high points of the outdoor schedule are the 85th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays (March 28-31) and Southeastern's first home event in over a decade.
“The Texas Relays is one of the premier meets; we relish the opportunity to get over there and compete against some of the best athletes in the country,” Brady said. “That meet, short of a Regional Championship and the NCAA meet, is about as good a competition that you'll ever see.”
The Southeastern Invitational, scheduled for April 20 at the new Southeastern track complex, will be the first meet the program has hosted on campus since March 2000.
“Having a chance for our athletes to showcase their talents in front of friends and family is something special,” Brady said. “Our alumni base, fans, ex-athletes and current athletes are very excited about being able to finally compete at home.”
