SLU\'s WOMACK POSTS SCHOOL-RECORD AT LEONARD HILTON MEMORIAL

HOUSTON, Texas – Baton Rouge's Dwight Womack and Kim Carriere of Opelousas set each set individual school-records in their respective events as the Southeastern Louisiana indoor track and field team competed at the Leonard Hilton Memorial that concluded late Friday at Bill Yeoman Fieldhouse on the University of Houston campus.


Womack, who prepped at Tara High School, finished second overall in the men's weight throw with a mark of 56-5¾, which eclipsed his own mark set last season at the Southland Conference Indoor Championships. Carriere, a former Beau Chene product, broke the school-record of 51-0¼ set last season by Fayola Wilson after she recorded a mark of 51-11 to finish second overall in the event.


Individually, 17 personal-bests were established in Southeastern's second indoor meet of the season. On the men's side, Alex Aschenbrenner posted a personal-best time in the mile run (4:40.38) with Desmond Dunn posting a high-mark in the 60-meter dash (7.13) and long jump (20-8½). Chris Labat posted a personal-best in the weight throw (47-1) while sprinter Elgin Garnette tied his personal-best in the 60-meter dash (7.14).


On the women's side, freshman Roseann Bell of Ponchatoula set personal-bests in the 60-meter dash (8.01) and long jump (17-8) with Carriere adding a personal-best in the shot put (39-2½). Amy Fleddermann established a personal-best in the 60-meter hurdles (8.93) while freshman Kim Gastinell eclipsed her personal-best in the 800-meter run after crossing the finish line in 2:27.42.


Sheena Horton recorded a mark of 7.96 in the 60-meter dash, Courtney Johnson posted her best time in the 400-meter dash (1:01.11) and Ashanti Smith posted top times in the 60-meter (7.87) and 200-meter dash (26.34). Freshman Bonita Taylor recorded a mark of 8.05 in the 60-meter dash while Wilson eclipsed her previous best in the shot put, recording a mark of 41-8 to finish seventh overall.


Southeastern will return to action on Saturday when it competes at the LSU Bayou Bengal at the Maddox Field House.
