Women Breeze Past MCN, LSU, Tulane For Title, Men Fifth at Cowboy Stampede

LAKE CHARLES, La. – The Nicholls State women's cross country team earned its second straight meet title, winning the 2011 Cowboy Stampede Saturday morning in Lake Charles, while the men's team placed fifth overall on the day.

Led by Jessica McLeod's school-record 17:52 in the 5K event, the Colonel women had four runners place in the top ten to finish first ahead of McNeese, LSU and Tulane with 51 total points in the event. The men finished fifth with 145 points led by Sebie O'Neil's 29th place finish to lead the men's team.

McLeod finished fourth among collegians with her time, followed by Tessni Carruthers who finished fifth in 18:01, Emily Charlesworth in seventh in 18:12 and Ingvild Vedde in 18:16 to round out the Colonels who finished in the top ten. Jackie White earned a 27th place finish with her time of 19:27, while Sara Pressley finished in 19:49, Ashley Johnson in 20:05 and Emily Carere in 22:21 to round out the Nicholls runners.

O'Neil finished the race in 21:19 to pace the men's team, followed by Kane Daigle's time of 21:42, Blaine Gisclair's 21:51, Tyler Folse's 22:33, Nic Benoit's 22:42, and Reece Vitale's 22:43 to finish up for the Colonels.

Both teams will be back in action in two weeks, traveling to Tusclaloosa to participate in Alabama's Crimson Classic.
