Men's XC Takes Second at Cowboys Stampede

LAKE CHARLES, La. -- Four Tigers finished inside the top 15 to lead the LSU men's cross country team to their third straight second place finish at the McNeese Cowboys Stampede in Lake Charles, La., on Saturday.

The Tigers were led by senior Cullen Doody, who finished sixth in 19 minutes 40 seconds over four miles at the Enos Derbonne sports complex.

Senior Richard Chautin was the next Tiger across the line with an eighth place finish of 19:48.41. Junior Roger Cook and freshman William Wiesler rounded out the top 15 for LSU with 12th and 14th place finishes respectively.

"The trio of Doody, Chautin and Cook have been consistent performers for us through the start of the season," LSU head coach Mark Elliott said. "They have had some success so far and hopefully they can keep it going as we get into the business end of the season."

For the women, junior Leigh-Ann Naccari shattered her personal record for a 5,000 meter course finishing in 17:48.00 leading LSU to third place in the team competition.

Naccari finished third as four Lady Tigers were among the first 20 runners across the finish line.

Brea GoodmanLaura Aleman, and Dakota Goodman finished 11th, 14th and 19th respectively for LSU.

Aleman also ran a PR of 17:48.00 to go along with her best finish this season.

"Leigh-Ann Naccari continues to run very well and put our team in great positions," Elliott said. "This meet showed our athletes are in great shape and continuing to improve when you consider all the PRs."

LSU gets a deserved rest next weekend after three straight weeks of competition to start the season. Their next race comes Saturday, Oct. 15 at the Chile Pepper Festival in Fayetteville, Ark.
