Vedde Finishes Second at Prestigious Diamond League Junior Meet

Incoming Nicholls State University freshman track and field athlete Ingvild Vedde turned in a stellar performance over the weekend as the Nesbyen, Norway native clocked in with a second place finish at the prestigious DN Galan Diamond League track meet in Stockholm on Sunday.

Vedde, who competed in the junior amateur portion of the DN Galan meet, recorded a time of 4:41.17, just over 0.5 seconds off the winning time and less than three seconds off a personal record.  Vedde held her place after entering the meet with the second best qualifying time in the 13-member field.

The DN Galan is the eleventh of 14 stops on the prestigious Samsung Diamond League tour.  Previously named the Golden League, the Samsung Diamond League forms the premier annual competition tour for professional track and field athletes with tour stops Asia, the Middle East, Europe and the United States.

Vedde will make her debut with the Nicholls track and field and cross country team when the Colonels open the 2011 campaign at the McNeese Relays on Sept. 2.
