Southeastern trio named among league's top performers in classroom

Renada Living, Henry Rop and Brittany Pfantz were named to the Southland All-Academic teams
HAMMOND – Southeastern Louisiana University track student-athletes Henry Rop, Brittany Pfantz and Renada Living were named to the 2011 Southland Conference Men's and Women's Track and Field/Cross Country All-Academic Teams which were announced by the league office on Wednesday.

The two-time Southland Conference Men's Cross Country Student-Athlete of the Year, Rop, a health education major with a 3.46 grade point average, earned Southland All-Academic honors for the second season. Both Pfantz, a 3.95 student in kinesiology, and Living, a nursing major who carries a 3.37 grade point average, were named to the team for the first time.

Rop, a senior from Kapsabet, Kenya, was an All-Southland performer during both the cross country and outdoor seasons. At the Southland Cross Country Championships, Rop finished sixth and then moved on to finish 16th at the NCAA South Central Regionals. At the league outdoor meet, Rop finished third in the 10,000 meter run.

Pfantz, a sophomore from DeRidder, was the team's top pole vaulter. At the Southland Outdoor Championships, she earned All-Southland honors with a second place finish and qualified for the NCAA East Preliminary Round. A member of the Southeastern Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, Pfantz posted a fourth-place finish at the Southland indoor meet.

Living, a junior from Lafayette, led a young group of Lady Lion throwers. The highlight of her season came at the Southland Indoor Championships, where she earned All-Southland honors in the weight throw. Living finished second at the meet with a throw of 57 feet (17.37 meters).

Sam Houston State's Chris Cralle and Trecey Rew of Northwestern State were selected as the Southland Outdoor Track and Field Student-Athletes of the Year. The Southland Conference awards committee, which consists of one administrator from each of the 12 member schools, voted for the student-athletes of the year. The student-athlete of the year award is presented to the one male and one female student-athlete who achieve excellence in both academics and athletics. All nominees shall have earned at least a 3.2 GPA on a 4.0 scale, and demonstrated achievement in athletics for at least two years at the nominating institution.

The all-academic teams are voted on by the head coaches, sports information directors and academic/compliance administrators from each Southland university. Student-athletes must possess a 3.0 cumulative GPA, have completed one full academic year at the nominating institution and participated in at least 50 percent of the team's competition to qualify for the all-academic squad.

The 2011 Southland Conference Cross Country and Track and Field All-Academic Teams are comprised of student-athletes that competed in cross country, indoor track and field and/or outdoor track and field. Student-athletes earn automatic qualification onto the Southland Conference All-Academic Team if they maintain a GPA of 3.0 in addition to earning either first-team all-conference honors in any of the three seasons and/or a CoSIDA Academic All-District VI Selection.
