HAMMOND – Five members of the Southeastern Louisiana track and field team will compete in the NCAA East Outdoor Track and Field Preliminary Round, which begins on Thursday at the Robert C. Haugh Track and Field Complex on the Indiana University campus.

Senior Michael Rheams will compete in both the long jump and triple jump for the Lions. Other Southeastern competitors include senior Kovey Simmons (men's pole vault), sophomore Brittany Pfantz (women's pole vault), junior Michelle Ogashi (women's triple jump) and sophomore Chelsey Steele (women's javelin). Live results will be available at www.iuhoosiers.com.

Only two Southeastern student-athletes will be in action on the opening day. Rheams will take part in the long jump, while Pfantz will compete in the pole vault on Thursday at 6 p.m.

Four Southeastern representatives will compete on Friday. Steele will open the day's action for the Lady Lions at 12 p.m. in the javelin. At 1 p.m., Ogashi competes in the women's triple jump. Both Simmons (pole vault) and Rheams (triple jump) will see action at 6 p.m.

Should any of the Southeastern student-athletes finish in the top 12 in their respective events, they will advance to next month's NCAA Championships. The national meet is scheduled for June 8-11 at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa.
