Isidore Newman's Jada Recasner is this week's MileSplit Louisiana Future Star.
Recasner has competed in track and field since she was seven-years old and growing up in Nashville, Tn.. With her mom as her coach, she qualified for the AAU National Junior Olympics in that first year, and has qualified every year since.
"I love that track & field allows me to compete individually for personal goals and still be a part of a team," Recasner said. "Track pushes me to try and be better every meet and I love seeing my hard work pay off when I improve on a time or a jump."
Recasner, a junior, said that the hard work she puts on the track pays off in the classroom as well.
"Track forces me to be mentally tough and disciplined, which also helps me academically as well with being disciplined about my study habits and staying focused on the goal of running in college," Recasner said.
2025 is a year that Recasner will never forget as she swept the indoor and outdoor state championships in the triple jump.
"I am actually most proud of two meets-The 2025 Indoor and Outdoor State Championship Meets where I became State Champion in the Triple Jump in both meets," Recasner said. "The Outdoor Championships my triple jump was 36-3, and Indoor my Triple Jump was 34-6.25."
Recasner credits her summer age group coaches with the New Orleans Metro Stars, as well as her high school coach Uche Okpalobi for pushing her to where she is at this point in her career.
"The New Orleans Metro Stars (coaches) have been extremely instrumental in pushing me to try new events, stay in shape and always stay ready," Recasner said. "My high school Coach Uche Okpalobi provides constant support, tough love and is always willing to go the extra mile to make sure that I build confidence in myself when competing."
This year, Recasner wanted to score a few personal records. She did just that with a jump of 37-10 at the Region 3-2A championship.
When she is not training and competing, Recasner likes to thrift shop, dance, and hang out with her friends.
