Thousands of votes were cast for MileSplit Louisiana Girls' Outdoor Athlete of the Year and Mandeville's senior sprinter Naleah Crandle came out on top.
Winning is something Crandle became accustomed to during her final year of high school winning her first six 100 meter races. During that stretch, Crandle ran a personal record 11.83 on her way to becoming the St. Tammany Parish champion. She was also the District 6-5A champion (12.01).
Crandle won the voting for MileSplit Louisiana Girls' Outdoor Athlete of the Year by receiving 5,619 votes. That total represented just over 54% of all votes. Ruston sophomore distance runner Eden Dawsey was the runner-up with 2,815 votes.
"Naleah had an outstanding senior season," Mandeville head coach Howie Inman said. "She was one of the most improved sprinters in the state. Her work ethic speaks for itself. Our program will miss her leading by example leadership and wishes her nothing but success as she continues her athletic career at the University of New Orleans."
Crandle has clung to Mark 9:23 during her senior season. The scripture says "Anything you want to achieve will be possible as long as you have faith."
