Epsicopal's Wynn Turner helped his Knights win the LHSAA Class 2A boys' state title by being a dominant force in the hurdles. This past week, Turner's family, friends, and fans dominated the voting for MileSplit Louisiana Boys' Outdoor Athlete of the Year.
Turner won the voting for the award by garnering 3,244 votes, which was just over 52% of all votes cast. Cedar Creek eighth-grade sprinter Kingston Culpepper was the runner-up in the voting with 2,265 (36%).
"Winning back-to-back championships has meant everything to our team," Turner said. "Spending every day with this group made it all worth it. We're grateful for our coaches who pushed up to improve, and we're proud to leave our mark on Episcopal track and field."
In the final high school meet of his career, Turner put on a show. He won 110 hurdles with a personal record 14.59 before returning in the 300 hurdles where he finished as the runner-up with a personal record 38.78. Turner, who ran a leg on Episcopal's fourth-place 4x200, made his final trip to the podium with his teammates on the Knights 4x400 (3:23.37).
Turner's La. Sports Hall of Fame coach, Claney Duplechin, said that Turner was most deserving any recognition he receives.
"He is truly an outstanding person and athlete," Duplechin said. "His work ethic is off the charts. He could have done many other events, but we just could only do four. I've been so proud of him and his efforts all these years. He is one of the main reasons we have been able to go back-to-back in our boys team state championships."
Duplechin praised Episcopal head girls' coach, Bill Jones, who specifically worked with the sprinters and hurdlers during the 2026 season,
