LAFAYETTE – The Southeastern Louisiana track and field team enjoyed 14 first-place finishes at the Cole-Lancon Invitational on the campus of Louisiana-Lafayette Saturday.

The first-place finishes were the most of the five schools competing, and were evenly divided between the men's and women's sides. The Lady Lions were responsible for three of Southeastern's five season-highs set today.

“I thought we did very well in the hurdles today,” Southeastern track and field coach Sean Brady said. “Judith (Schultheis) ran very well in the 100-meter hurdles and freshman Alicia Noel moved up quite a few spots in the SLC standings in the 400.

“Overall, it was a good tuneup for the Southland Conference championships. We got a few more athletes qualified for conference. We're a very young team with mostly freshmen and sophomores on the women's side, but we're starting to come together at the right time. “

Southeastern was paced by the men's duo of Henry Rop and Michael Rheams. Both won multiple events; Rop the 800-meter run (2:00.57) and the 1,5000-meter run (4:03.24) while Rheams won both the long (22-11.00) and triple jumps (47-05.75).

Abram Taylor set a season high (14.96) in winning the 100-meter hurdles, and Kovey Simmons finished first in the pole vault (15-11.75). The team of Shaquille Brown-Jerel Butler-Tarvoris Mack-Abram Taylor won the 4 x 400-meter relay (3:26.48).

Stephen Atkinson established a new season high in the discus.

On the women's side, Tamra Grayson's 400-meter dash (56.08) set a season high, as did the Brittany Pfantz's effort in the pole vault (12-11.50) and Jessica Fekete's hammer throw (168-10). All three won their events.

Other first-place finishers for the Lady Lions included Michelle Ogashi in the triple jump (40-07.00), Alicia Noel in the 400-meter hurdles (1:01.38), Judith Schultheis in the 100-meter dash (14.16) and Emily McAfee in the 5000-meter run (18:36.71).
