VALURE LEADS LIONS AT ARKANSAS CHILE PEPPER INVITATIONAL


FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Joey Valure led the Southeastern men's cross country team to a 25th-place finish as the Lions competed in the 17th annual Chile Pepper Invitational held Saturday.


Valure covered the 10,000-meter course in 32:34.0 as he finished 109th overall among 245 runners entered in the event. Kurt Scoby (32:37.0) finished 114th overall for the Lions with Alex Aschenbrenner (32:53.9) placing 126th, Sean Allerton (34:25.7) 127th and Rosendo Vallejos (35:22.6) 175th.


Host Arkansas, the top-ranked cross country program in the nation, won the event with 57 points as it placed five runners in the top 16 and six in the top 20. Arkansas All-American Josphat Boit took the individual crown for the second consecutive meet crossing the finish line in a course-record 28:27.6. Sixth-ranked Arizona was second with 93 points, No. 11 Texas-El Paso was third with 94 and No. 31-ranked Alabama finished fourth with 98 points
