Colonels Look to Climb Regional Ranks at LSU Alumni Gold Meet

THIBODAUX - The Nicholls State University women's track and field team will look to work their way up the regional rankings as the Colonels head to the LSU Alumni Gold on Saturday.

The Colonels begin the weekend with nine athletes ranked among the top five performances in their event in Southland Conference.  Meanwhile, Nicholls boasts six athletes who rank in the top 50 in their event in the NCAA East Region.

Senior high jumper Chelsea Dockrey leads the way, ranked second in the Southland Conference with a school record showing of 1.75 m (5 ft. 8.75 in.) in the high jump.  Dockrey's season-best showing ranks her 15th in the NCAA East Region and is only 0.01 m (0.5 in.) off the Southland Conference lead.

Meanwhile, sophomore Aja Scott and freshman Jaimee Springer lead a deep group of Nicholls javelin throwers.  The duo ranks third and fourth, respectively, in the Southland Conference in the javelin.  Meanwhile, Scott's season best mark of 44.05 m (144 ft. 6 in.) ranks 33rd in the region, and Springer's career best mark of 43.88 m (143 ft. 11 in.) ranks 39th in the East.

With the top 48 athletes in each event slated to make the NCAA Championship East Preliminary meet, a strong showing at LSU on Saturday would help the Colonels add to their six athletes in the top 50 of the region and add to the Colonels' expected postseason contingent.
