RUSTON – Michelle Ogashi set a school-record in the women's triple jump while Michael Rheams claimed the men's triple jump title as the Southeastern Louisiana track and field team finished competition on Saturday at the Jim Mize Invitational, hosted by Louisiana Tech.

Ogashi finished first with a mark of 41 feet, 0.25 inches and shattered the previous mark of 40-4.25 that was set by Sylvida Davis in 2003. Ogashi's first-place finish was one of six by the Lady Lions and seven overall by Southeastern, which competed against Louisiana Tech and Grambling.

“We took a skeleton crew up with here with some kids getting ready for the Texas Relays and I was pleased with how we performed,” Southeastern track and field coach Sean Brady said. “It was a small meet, but we had some solid performances despite not having the depth we've usually had in the past. We're leaning on our freshmen heavily to compete each week and we're getting better each week as we get closer to the Southland Conference championships.”

Naomi Jeruto recorded two first-place finishes for the Lady Lions claiming the 3,000-meter run on Friday with a time of 10 minutes, 49.14 seconds before finishing first in the 1,500-meter run (4:56.72). Alex Vidos (4-01.25) finished first in the high jump while Jessica Fekete (161-05) captured the hammer throw and Petra Poznic (142-05) the javelin.

Rheams claimed first in the triple jump for the Lions after recording a mark of 50-11.25. Henry Rop set a facility record and finished second overall in the 3,000-meter run (8:47.78) and finished third in the 1,500-meter run (4:03.61) while Tavoris Mack (54.85) and Abram Taylor (55.79) finished second and third respectively in the 400-meter hurdles.

Phillippe Moore placed third overall in the long jump (23-03.25) and fourth in the triple jump (45-09.00). Stephen Atkinson finished third in both the shot put (38-08.75) and javelin (160-10).
