Colonels Shatter a Pair of School Records at Florida Pepsi Relays

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -
The Nicholls State University women's track and field team set a pair of school records and turned in severl more impressive performances as the first day of the prestigious 67th annual Florida Pepsi Relays concluded Friday night in Gainesville.

Senior sprinter Samantha Calhoun, who began the week ranked as the fastest woman in the Southland Conference, shattered her own school record in the 100 m with a time of 11.68, bettering her previous record by 0.11 seconds.  Against one of the deepest sprint fields in the country, the Morgan City native finished eighth.

Joining Calhoun in school record fashion was senior distance runner Lauren Jones who clocked in at 17:26.21 in the 5K, shattering her own previous school record by more than 20 seconds.

Also giving impressive performances were senior high jumper Chelsea Dockrey, who tied the second best mark in school history with an eighth place jump of 1.70 m (5 ft. 7.0 in.) and senior distance runner Kadi Whisnant, who delivered a 10:53.89, seventh place showing in her first 3,000 m steeplechase of the season.

The Colonels will try to pick up where they left off on Saturday in the second and final day of the 67th annual Florida Pepsi Relays tomorrow.
