Cajuns Earn Regional Marks at LSU Relays

 The University of Louisiana men and women's track & field teams concluded day two of the LSU Relays with another solid performance, clinching five podium finishes and notching seven marks that rank in the top-48 of the East Region on Saturday at Bernie Moore Track Stadium in Baton Rouge.  

On the weekend, UL had 11 individuals earn marks that are listed in the NCAA East Region's top-48. Athletes who reach the top-48 at the end of the season will qualify for the NCAA Preliminary Round in Bloomington, Ind.

Senior Jasmine Anderson topped a strong weekend, placing third in the 100-meter hurdles. Her time of 13.47 ranks fourth in the East and is seventh nationally.

UL's throws had an excellent weekend, including three individuals setting region marks in the shot put. Jacob Domingue placed second in the LSU Relays and 10th in the region with his toss of 54-9 ¼.   

Sophomore Myles Melancon narrowly missed a podium finish, placing fourth and ranking 14th in the East with a toss of 54-1. Also tabbing a regional mark was Tyler Guidry with his throw of 51-6 ½, ranking 32nd in the region.

Domingue set another strong performance in the discus, tossing a length of 162-11, placing fifth in the meet and ranking 20th in the region.

In the javelin throw, Casey Comeaux earned second with his toss of 200-3, ranking 41st in the region.

Petrona Layne won her second collegiate outdoor event this season, running the 1,500-meter in 4:55.68. Teammate April Colomb finished second in the run, recording a time of 5:04.08. 

In the finals of the 400-meter hurdles, Taryn Simmons recorded a time of 1:02.91 for fifth and earned a regional rank of 38th in the East. Freshman Abi Brown finished 1:08.21. 

Alexis Malone finished inside the top-10 with an eighth place time of 11.87 in the 100-meter dash finals on Saturday.

Louisiana takes a week hiatus before prepping for the prestigious Texas Relays on April 6-9.
