LSU: Seniors shine on Day 2

After a strong showing from the juniors on Friday, Alabama's senior class shone the brightest on Saturday at the LSU High School Classic.

In the field events, Mountain Brook senior and University of Virginia signee Whitney Marsh won the long jump (18' 4"), Scottsboro senior Jeremy Protz cleared 14' 10" to win the pole vault, and Auburn senior Jamaal McClinton took first in the high jump with a 6' 6" mark. Paul Wynn, a sophomore from Central-Tuscaloosa, also placed third in the high jump (6' 2").

On the track, seniors Sam Nuckols of Huntsville and Jamie Oliver of Hoover finished first and second in the 1600m with respective times of 4:23 and 4:33. Fellow seniors Elizabeth Wancowitz from McGill-Toolen (5:17)and Tara Enebak from Auburn (5:21) placed second and third in the 1600m.

Led by seniors Michael Brown, Phillip Moore, and Jamie Oliver, the Hoover 4x800m team raced to a victorious 8:14 time and twenty-second winning margin. McGill-Toolen was second in both the boys and girls 4x800m races.

Hoover senior Vaughn Pickens placed third in the 55m hurdles with a time of 7.65. Scottsboro's Daniel Nolan, also a senior, had the second-fastest preliminary time, but was impeded by an opponent's hurdle during the finals race and finished tenth overall.
