FRISCO, Texas – Southeastern Louisiana seniors
Shannon Grover and
Judith Schultheis have been named the Southland Conference men's and women's track and field athlete of the week, respectively, the league office announced Wednesday.
Grover, from New Orleans (East St. John), claimed individual titles in the 100-meter dash (10.82 seconds) and 200-meter dash (21.64) and was the anchor of the 4x400-meter relay (3:19.01) at the Tulane Team Challenge at Tad Gormley Stadium. Grover also helped Southeastern claim the team title in the three-team meet, which also included host Tulane and South Alabama.
Schultheis, from Gretna (Archbishop Blenk), set a school record in the 400-meter hurdles, posting a time of 1:00.69 to claim first place honors at the Tulane Team Challenge. Schultheis broke the previous record, 1:03.20, previously held by Vickie Lorio in 1991. Schultheis also won first place in the 100-meter hurdles and ran the second leg of the Lady Lions' 4x400-meter relay team that finished first (3:51.17).
The Southeastern women also claimed the three-team event over Tulane and South Alabama.
Each school's sports information director nominates and votes for the athletes of the week, though is not permitted to vote for his or her own student-athlete.
