Shallow Earns All-America Honors with Third Place Finish at NCAA Indoor Championships

Senior caps outstanding Lion career with highest male individual finish in Southeastern's Division I history

Adonson Shallow earned All-America honors for the second time in his career on Saturday
COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Southeastern Louisiana senior Adonson Shallow capped an outstanding career on Saturday, earning All-America honors with a third-place finish at the NCAA Indoor Championships at the Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium on the Texas A&M campus.

Shallow, a native of Kingstown, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, posted a throw of 69 feet, 6.25 inches (21.19 meters). Only LSU senior Walter Henning (72-8.5 feet) and Virginia Tech sophomore Alexander Ziegler (69-9.5 feet) bested Shallow's mark.

After fouling on his first two throws, Shallow scored on his third throw. The third-place finish was the best for an individual Southeastern male student-athlete at the national meet since the Lions made the transition to Division I.

Saturday's performance put a fitting cap on one of the greatest track careers in Southeastern history. Shallow is a five-time Southland Conference champion, four-time Southland Conference Outstanding Field Performer, the 2010 Southland Outdoor Athlete of the Year and the 2009 Southland Indoor Newcomer of the Year.

In 2010, he was named the South Central Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year by the United States Track and Field/Cross Country Coaches Association after earning All-America honors with a fourth place finish in the discus at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. He is also the league record holder in the weight throw.

“This was a great finish to Adonson's Southeastern career,” Southeastern assistant coach Brian Mondschein commented. “We expect Adonson to continue improving and to be successful as his career progresses.”

Now that his collegiate career has ended, Shallow will likely concentrate in his best event – the hammer throw – as his career continues.
