Pfantz Sets Meet Record As Lions, Lady Lions Compete At Cowboy Relays

Southeastern finishes third overall behind Northwestern State, McNeese State in six-team event

LAKE CHARLES – Southeastern Louisiana's Brittany Pfantz set a meet record in the women's pole vault while the Lion and Lady Lion track and field team finished third overall at the McNeese State Cowboy Relays on Saturday.

Southeastern finished third overall in both the men's and women's standings in the six-team event, scoring a combined 214.5 points to finish behind Northwestern State (298) and host McNeese State (283.5). Southeastern was followed by Louisiana-Lafayette (150), Lamar (116) and Southwest Christian (76) in the combined standings in the third annual Bob Hayes Challenge trophy.

“We had a good day today despite holding some key individuals out,” Southeastern head coach Sean Brady said. “It was good to see our younger athletes continue to make progress in their second collegiate outdoor meet. This will help them once we get to the (Southland) conference meet later this spring.”

Pfantz highlighted the Lady Lions' performance finishing first overall with a mark of 12 feet, 6 inches and eclipsing the previous meet record (12-0) set last year by Lady Lion teammate Lacey Sanchez. Colleen Butler (10-11.75) and Kristin Eubanks (10-06) finished second and third overall for Southeastern after each posted season-bests.

Freshman Nia Stewart claimed the title in the women's 100-meter dash after posting a mark of 12.13 seconds. Tess Mullings finished second overall in the 100-meter hurdles (14.02) while Michelle Ogashi earned a second-place finish in the triple jump (39-11.25) and a fourth-place showing in the long jump (18-02.25).

Renada Living (158-05) and Jessica Fekete (154-01) finished second and third respectively in the hammer throw while Chelsey Steele (131-03) placed third overall in the javelin.

On the men's side, the 4x400-meter relay team claimed first place with a time of 3:16.28 while Kovey Simmons placed first in the pole vault (16-00) and Phillippe Moore finished first in the long jump (23-06.25).

Tavoris Mack finished second overall in the 400-meter hurdles (56.94) and Johnel Reams turned in a second-place performance in the high jump (6-06.00). Michael Rheams (47-02.25) and Moore (46-01.25) finished second and third, respectively, in the triple jump while Kevin Dorhauer (13-06.25) and Andrew Pennington (13-06.25) finished third and fourth, respectively, in the pole vault.

Southeastern will return to action on Saturday when it travels to Lafayette to compete in the annual Louisiana Classics at the Ragin' Cajun Track and Field Complex.
