Southeastern Track Dominates Tulane Team Challenge

Lions claim men's and women's events against Tulane, South Alabama

Judith Schultheis claimed three titles at the Tulane Team Challenge on Wednesday
NEW ORLEANS – Judith Schultheis recorded three first-place finishes on the women's side while Shannon Grover also earned victories in three events as the Southeastern Louisiana track and field team dominated the Tulane Team Challenge on Wednesday at Tad Gormley Stadium.

The three-team meet was the spring opener for Southeastern.

Southeastern claimed championships in both the men's and women's events that included host Tulane and South Alabama. On the men's side, Southeastern scored 149 points with South Alabama (130) and Tulane (76) following. The Lady Lions scored 131 points to edge Tulane (126) and South Alabama (116) for the team title.

“It was a great day for us,” Southeastern head coach Sean Brady said. “It was good to get Shannon back. He's been a cornerstone for our program for the past four years and to have him back certainly gave our sprint group a shot in the arm. We were very conservative with him and didn't run him hard. It was a very appropriate introduction back into competition and he ran fantastic.

“Judith picked up right where she left off last year with a conference championship. We're very pleased with that. Our women's 4x400-meter relay team ran very well. We had so many bright spots and it gave us an opportunity to see where we stack up against schools from other conferences.”

Schultheis earned wins in the women's 100-meter hurdles (14.49), 400-meter hurdles (1:00.69) and ran the second leg on the Lady Lions' winning 4x400-meter relay team (3:51.17).

Alicia Noel earned a first-place finish in the 400-meter dash (57.95) and ran the anchor leg on the 4x400-meter. Brittany Pfantz claimed first-place honors in the pole vault with a mark of 11 feet, 7.75 inches while Michelle Ogashi earned a first-place finish in the triple jump (38-7.75).

Grover claimed first-place finishes in the men's 100-meter dash (10.82), 200-meter dash (21.64) and ran the anchor leg on the Lions' 4x400-meter relay team (3:19.01). Abram Taylor claimed first-place finishes in the 110-meter hurdles (15.33) and 400-meter hurdles (55.83) while Rheams claimed titles in both the long jump (23-1.75) and triple jump (49-7.25).

Seth Cunningham claimed the 800-meter run for the Lions (1:57.05) and Henry Rop claimed the 1,500-meter run (4:00.12). Michael Rheams captured the men's high jump title (6-6) and Kovey Simmons finished first in the pole vault (16-00.75).

Southeastern will return to action on Saturday when it travels to Lake Charles to compete in the McNeese State Invitational.
