BATON ROUGE – The Southeastern Louisiana men's and women's track and field teams will have their final preparation for the Southland Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships Championships on Friday, when they compete in the LSU Twilight meet at the Carl Maddox Field House on the LSU campus.
The field events are scheduled to get underway at 12:30 p.m. with the men's weight throw. The action starts on the track at 5:15 p.m. with the preliminary round of the men's and women's 60 meter hurdles. Live results will be available at www.lsusports.net.
The Lions and Lady Lions are among a field that includes No. 2 LSU, Northwestern State, Nicholls, McNeese State, Prairie View, South Alabama, Southern, Southern Miss, Tulane, Louisiana-Monroe and Hinds Community College.
Southeastern will be looking for a strong performance leading into next week's league championship meet. The Southland meet is scheduled for Feb. 24-26 in Norman, Okla.
Leading the way for the Lions is senior All-American
Adonson Shallow. The Lion star has already posted the league's best performance of the indoor season in the weight throw (68-1) and the second-best in the shot put (58-2.5). Shallow is one of two Lions to have a league-best indoor performance this season, as junior
Kovey Simmons' clearing of a school-record 16 feet, 6.76 inches at the Jeff Davis McNeese Indoor earlier this month is tied for the best by a Southland athlete this spring.
Among the other Lion standouts are freshman
Antonio Herbert (5th in the Southland, 60 meters), senior
Jerel Butler (8th, 400 meters), freshman
Abram Taylor (7th, 60 meter hurdles), sophomore
Johnel Reams (9th, high jump), freshman
Phillippe Moore (5th, long jump), senior
Michael Rheams (7th, triple jump) and sophomore
Stephen Atkinson (8th, heptathlon).
The Lady Lions feature two of the Southland's top five performers in the pole vault. Sophomore
Brittany Pfantz (3rd, 11-7.75) and freshman
Colleen Butler (4th, 11-5.75) have both excelled in that event.
Other Lady Lion top performers include senior
Judith Schultheis (5th, 60 meter hurdles), freshman
Tess Mullings (7th, 60 meter hurdles), junior
Michelle Ogashi (2nd, triple jump), sophomore
Shalicia Rochon (8th, shot put) and junior
Renada Living (5th, weight throw).
