Detroit Drafts Former Captain Shreve Sprinter in 5th Round

The LHSAA State Outdoor Championships made an appearance on the NFL Network's day three coverage of the NFL Draft as Kentucky's Kendrick Law was drafted in the fifth round by the Detroit Lions. Law, a former star sprinter for the Captain Shreve Gators, celebrated the moment Saturday afternoon with friends, family, and a few of his high school coaches.

Detroit moved up 13 spots to select Law with the 168th overall pick. 

As the NFL Network coverage team broke down the selection, they included video from Law's junior year at the 2021 LHSAA State Outdoor Championships where he ran a wind-aided 10.48 in a runner-up finish to Alexandria's Keonta Gaines, who ran a 10.47.

It was the only loss during the season in which he was coached by his father, Kendrick Law Sr. In the seven victories leading to his final race Law averaged 10.94. 

Out of high school, Law was signed by Alabama in February of 2022. Two months earlier, then Alabama head coach Nick Saban paid Law a visit at Captain Shreve High School.

Last year at Kentucky, Law caught 55 passes for 53 passes for 540 yards and three touchdowns. He played in 12 games and started in eight.
