Just when you think you have seen Alexandria sophomore Carter Rivet do it all...
Rivet improved his personal record in the discus by an incredible 11 feet on Wednesday at the District 2-5A Championship in West Monroe. With his 203-7, Rivet became only the third discus thrower in Louisiana history to surpass the 200 foot barrier.
Winnfield's John Nichols, who set a state record as a junior of 205-6, set Louisiana's all-time No. 1 mark during his senior season with a throw of 212-0. He also had a throw of 211-1 at the Golden West Invitational.
In the MileSplit database there is only one sophomore in history with a throw further than the one Rivet threw on Wednesday. The No. 1 ranking belongs to Missouri's Jackson Cantwell, who threw the discus 205-4 at the Kansas Relays in 2024.
USA ALL-TIME SOPHOMORE BOYS DISCUS LIST
Rivet's performance was one of many highlights for an ASH team that swept the District 2-5A Championships. It's the second time this year that Coach Freeman's Trojans have travelled to West Monroe and returned to Central Louisiana with the boys and girls team trophies.
"As far as the sweep, I'm extremely proud of both the boys and girls teams," Freeman said. "On the girls' side, we're very strong and committed to try and be great at the little details. This group is determined! On the boys side, we have a group that is fighting tooth and nail to compete and advance in an extremely tough district. More importantly, both teams thrive off of the success of each other! Both teams are scoring in all areas."
Freeman continues to be impressed with his "super star"--Rivet.
"Carter Rivet, is the most humble and driven super star that I've ever seen! You sit back in awe of what he is doing! He has an awesome support system and I'm glad we're along for the journey."
The ASH girls scored 214 points, 57 points more than runner-up Ruston. The boys race between the perennial powerhouse programs were a bit tighter. The Trojan boys scored 165 points, 21points more than Ruston.
Besides Rivet, who also had personal record throw in the shot put of, the boys were led by junior Demarion Robinson and senior Robert Wright. Robinson won the 110 meter hurdles (15.51) and finished second in the 300 meter hurdles (40.58). Wright finished second in the high jump (6-2) and fourth in the 100 meters (11.05). Wright also ran a leg on Alexandria's 4x100 and 4x200 both of which qualified for regionals with top four finishes.
On the girls' side, it was the usual suspects. Senior school record holder Noelle Williams won both the long jump (18-2) and triple jump (39-2). Williams also ran a leg on the Trojans winning 4x100 meter relay (47.29).
The only female athlete at the District 2-5A Championship was her teammate-- the sophomore Gray, who scored 23 points. Gray won the 200 meters (24.18) and finished second in the 100 meters (11.96). Gray also ran a leg on the winning 4x100 and 4x200 teams.
Another ASH sprinter on both of the sprint relay teams was Amari Dupar, who also finished on the podium in both the 100 meters (11.99) and 200 meters (24.82). Dupar finished third in the 100 meters and second in the 200 meters.
The Ruston girls team was led by sophomore distance runner Eden Dawsey, who won both the 800 meters (2:19.97) and 1600 meters (5:22.30).
