Nicholls Relay Team Sets New School Record on Day One of Houston Indoor Invitational

HOUSTON, Texas -
  The Nicholls State University women's track and field team got off to a strong start at the Houston Indoor Invitational on Friday as the Colonel distance medley relay team set a new school record on the first day of the two-day meet at Yeoman Fieldhouse.

The Colonel relay squad, comprised of seniors Jessica McLeod, Imma Kosgei, Kadi Whisnant and freshman Jackie White clocked in at 12:12.44 to claim third in a crowded field.  The Colonels finished less than six seconds off the winning pace of 12:07.73 set by the host Houston Cougars.  Nicholls was less than four seconds behind second place conference rival Texas-Arlington.

The Colonels bettered their previous school record of 12:15.51 set by McLeod, Whisnant, Naomi Green and Marion Chebet at the 2010 Southland Conference Indoor Championships.

Nicholls will return to action on Saturday in the final day of the Houston Indoor Invitational.
