HOUSTON – Southeastern Louisiana's Brittany Pfantz recorded a fifth-place performance in the women's pole vault recording a mark of 11 feet, 7.75 inches while Stephen Atkinson finished 10th in the men's heptathlon after the first day of the Houston Indoor Invitational on Friday at Yeoman Fieldhouse.

Action resumes Saturday at 9 a.m. beginning with the shot put with running events scheduled for 11 a.m. beginning with the 5,000-meter run.

Pfantz, who cleared at 11-3.75 two weeks ago in her 2011 indoor debut, finished second in the event among Southland Conference athletes with Elena Horn of Texas State clearing at 12-1.50. Colleen Butler finished 10th overall for the Lady Lions after posting a mark of 11-1.75 with Kristin Eubanks recording a mark of 10-2.

Alicia Noel (59.99), Tamra Grayson (1:01.45) and Keisha Celestine (1:03.84) all qualified for the 400-meters while Mandalyn Mitchell (26.60) and Tess Mullings (27.48) advanced to the finals in the 200-meter dash.

Atkinson got off to a slow start in the 60-meter dash before solid performances in his final three events of the first day to finish with 2,483 points. The Mandeville native finished 10th overall in the long jump (19-11.50) before a seventh-place finish in the shot put (38-7.50) and a fourth-place effort in the high jump (6-0).

Cameron Lawrence earned a fourth-place effort in the 400-meter dash (51.48) to qualify for the finals with Abram Taylor also advancing after a recording a time of 53.53. Jordan Rosemond advanced to the finals in the men's 200-meter dash after posting a time of 24.05.
