Trading Places
Don't call it an upset in the boys sprints. It's just trading places for Acadiana junior Ty Thomas and Sulphur junior Tracy Washington. Thomas won the 100 meters (10.66) and 200 meters (21.85) at last year's District 3-5A Meet while Washington was the runner-up in both events.
Tuesday, the sprinters traded places as Washington won both the 100 meters (10.82) and 200 meters (21.75). Thomas was the runner-up in both races.
District 3-5A Championship Results
Back On Top
Carencro's Jay'lan Babineaux's District 3-5A Championship in the 400 meters was not his first, but it was his first in the 400 meters. Babineaux won the District 3-5A championship in the 800m during his sophomore year. Despite opening the year with a personal record in the 800 meters, Babineaux has concentrated on the 400 meters during his senior year. He has a season best of 48.91 at the Beaver Club Relays. Babineaux ranks No. 12 in state and No. 7 in 5A.
Super Sophomores
Sophomores dominated the boys distance events. Barbe's Lane Jessup won the 800 meters (2:00.48) while Lafayette's Maddox Tolbert won the distance double with wins in the 1600 meters (4:39.18) and 3200 meters (10:04.62).
