Southeastern Opens Indoor Schedule at LSU Purple Tiger Invitational

Meet starts at 11 a.m. on Saturday

Brittany Pfantz and Southeastern are ready to open the indoor season on Saturday
BATON ROUGE – The Southeastern Louisiana men's and women's track and field team will open its 2011 indoor season on Saturday, competing in the LSU Purple Tiger Invitational at the Carl Maddox Field House.

The meet will get underway at 11 a.m. Live stats will be available on the LSU Athletics website at www.LSUSports.net.

Several Lions and Lady Lions return after outstanding 2010 indoor seasons. Leading the way on the men's side is senior Adonson Shallow.

During the 2010 indoor season, Shallow captured Southland Conference titles in both the shot put and weight throw, eventually advancing to the NCAA Championships and finishing 10th in the weight throw. Shallow will be looking to repeat as the Purple Tiger champion in the shot put after winning the event a season ago in Baton Rouge.

Shallow also finished second in the shot put at last season's meet. Senior Michael Rheams will also be back for the Lions after posting a third-place finish in the triple jump at last season's Southland Indoor Championships.

Sophomore Brittany Pfantz is back after an impressive freshman campaign. Pfantz finished fourth at the Southland Conference Indoors in the pole vault, while also posting a fifth place finish at last season's Purple Tiger Invitational. At the same meet, junior Michelle Ogashi was fifth in the triple jump.

Following this week's opening meet, the Lions and Lady Lions will head to Houston to compete in the Houston Invitational on Jan. 28-29.
