Cajuns Run Final Team Races of 2010

Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns men's and women's cross country teams concluded their 2010 season on Saturday as both squads competed in the Sun Belt Conference Championships at Kereiakes Park in Bowling Green, Ky.

The day began with the women taking part in a 5K race. The men followed with an 8K trek.

In her final SBC meet, senior Paula Parker led the Cajuns women with a time of 19:53.8 which placed her 35thamongst the 77 runners who finished the women's 5K race.

Petrona Layne (47th, 20:17.4) and Jenna Picou (49th, 20:25.4) joined Parker in the Top 50. Picou's time was her season best in the 5K event.

On the men's side, Zachary France finished as the Cajuns top runner. His time of 28:05.8 placed him 42nd. France improved upon his time from last season's SBC meet (30:10.6) by a full two minutes.

Juan Rodriguez came in right behind France, finishing 48th with a time of 28:19.0.

Both of the Cajuns squads finished 11th in the team standings.

The Western Kentucky women's cross country team and UALR men's cross country team finished as team champions. WKU's Marion Kandie won the women's individual title with a time of 17:34.3. WKU's Shadrick Kipchirchir was the men's individual winner, finishing the 8K race at 24:33.1.

Saturday's SBC meet marked the final team races for UL in 2010. The Cajuns have the opportunity to send individual runners to the NCAA South Central Regional in Waco, Texas, on Saturday, Nov. 13.
