Colonel Cross Country Turns in Record Finish at Southland Conference Championships

The Nicholls State University women's cross country team turned in a school record finish at the 2010 Southland Conference Cross Country Championships with a program-best team score of 155, bettering their previous school record total of 157 set at last year's meet.

The Colonels were led by senior Jessica McLeod who missed a top-ten finish, and the resulting All-Southland Conference honors, by just eight seconds.  McLeod clocked in with a 13th-place time of 22:12.1 as the Colonels low scorer.

Senior Lauren Jones, a 2009 All-Southland Conference honoree, clocked in next for the Colonels.  The Centerville, Iowa native turned in a 21st place time of 22:39.7.  Classmate Kadi Whisnant followed with a 26th place performance, covering the 6K course in 22:52.2 and giving the Colonels three finishers in the top-30.

Freshmen Jackie White and Emily Charlesworth each turned in top-50 performances in their first postseason meets, as White clocked in at 23:41.0 to take 45th and Charlesworth followed with a time of 23:48.9 to take 50th.

In a crowded field in which third through eighth place was separated by just 54 points, It all added up to the best finish in school history as the Colonels claimed sixth place with 155 points.  Stephen F. Austin took the conference title with just 34 team points, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi followed with 78 points.

On the men's side, the Colonels totaled 378 points to take 12th.  Freshman Blaine Gisclair was the Colonels' low stick with a time of 29:12.7 on the 8K course.  Junior #Casey Keiser# followed with a time of 30:17.8.  Tyler Folse (31:18.2), Nic Benoit (31:34.1) and Joseph Fryou (33:05.3) rounded things out for the Colonels.
