Men's XC 2nd at LSU Invite; Women 4th

BATON ROUGE -- The LSU men's and women's cross country teams finished second and fourth, respectively, at the LSU Invitational Saturday morning at Highland Road Park.

Houston took home the men's title with 47 points, finishing just six points ahead of the Tigers. McNeese State won the women's title, racking up 38 points.

Senior Richard Chautin followed up his win last weekend with another strong performance Saturday, finishing second with a time of 25 minutes, 58.90 seconds.

"What can you say about Richard," cross country coach Mark Elliott said. "In just his second race, he finished second. He is learning to be more than just a member on the team. He is assuming his role as being the best guy on the team and he is running well."

Senior Tim Landry also placed in the top 10, finishing sixth, clocking a 26:43.54.

"I am learning to count on Tim," said Elliott, "and he is doing extremely well."

Junior Laura Carleton led the way for the women's team, finishing in sixth place with a time of 21:24.28. Sophomore Brea Goodman followed Carleton, clocking a 21:42.17 and placing 11th.

"Laura Carleton, the Goodman twins, Leigh-Ann Nacarri and Lauren Ybarzabal all ran well," Elliott said. "Overall, the effort on the women's side was good."

The Cross Country teams are off next weekend before heading to Lake Charles for the McNeese Cowboy Stampede on October 9.
