FRISCO, Texas
- The Nicholls State University women's track and field/cross country programs landed a pair of names on the 2010 Southland Conference All-Academic Team as senior javelin thrower Leslie Bourgeois and junior cross country/distance runner Lauren Jones were named as automatic selections by the league office on Monday.

Bourgeois was an automatic selection for the second consecutive season following her third career Southland Conference javelin championship. The Raceland native, a four-time NCAA postseason qualifier, became the first Colonel student athlete to advance to the national championship in consecutive seasons when she advanced to the 2010 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field National Championships and placed 12th, just 1.5 feet shy of being one of the top eight American born finishers, thereby earning All-American status.

Bourgeois, who was an automatic selection on the 2009 Southland All-Academic team, was joined this year by teammate Lauren Jones.

Jones, a Centerville, Iowa native was an automatic selection as well after leading the Nicholls women's cross country team to its most successful season in school history. Jones became the first Colonel cross country runner to turn in an All-Conference performance with a top-ten finish at the 2009 Southland Conference Cross Country Championships in Corpus Christi, Texas.

It marks the first time in school history that multiple women's track and field/cross country student athletes were named to the Southland Conference All-Academic squad.
