McNeese\'s Kay wins the mile run at Houston

A first place finish by Nicholas Kay in the mile at the University of Houston indoor meet and a season best of 4:15.95 in the mile by Robert Goodwin at the Arkansas Tyson meet highlighted indoor track efforts for McNeese State during the past weekend. In their final performance before the Southland Conference championship meet this coming Friday and Saturday, the Cowboys and the Cowgirls competed on two different fronts. The Arkansas meet featured many of the South's top collegiate performers. Goodwin posted a season best while finishing 18th in his event at Arkansas while also in that meet Ruth Waller turned in a 5:01.96 clocking for 11th place in the women's mile run. The Cowboys' Darrick Brown was defeated in the long jump for the first time this season as he finished 10th in the event at Arkansas with a 23-1 3/4 effort. The winning performance was 25-5. Todd Bourgeois was the only other Cowboy to place in Arkansas, finishing seventh in the pole vault at 16-2. Kay won the mile run at Houston with a 4:20.83 clocking and teammate Barry Hill finished fourth at 4:26.76. Also for the men in Houston, Alan Foolkes was third in the 3000 meters at 8:51.64, Jon Fagan finished sixth in the high hurdles at 8.21 and was 13th in the long jump at 21-10 3/4, Kerry Gremillion ran 50.74 for 15th in the 400 meters, Terry Lewis posted a 50.83 for 16th in the same event, Andre Bertrand finished 10th in the pole vault at 14-11, Brent Carlin placed seventh in the triple jump at 45-5 1/4 and was 11th in the long jump at 21-11 1/2 and Vaalyn Jackson was fourth in the shot put at 50-4 3/4 and Jimbo Hill was sixth at 48-5 1/4. For the Cowgirls in Houston, Kelly Gram ran eighth in the 400 meters at 58.78, Jennifer Mitchelle went 10-0 in the pole vault but did not place, Desiree Boxie was eighth in the long jump at 17-6 3/4 and Ameshia Forward was eighth in the triple jump at 33-4 3/4. -30-
