EUGENE, Ore. – Following a fourth place finish in discus Wednesday, Southeastern Louisiana senior Adonson Shallow was unable to register a mark in hammer throw at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships Friday at Hayward Field. He fouled on all three attempts.

LSU's Walter Henning claimed the hammer throw title with a top effort of 238 feet, 10 inches (72.79 meters). Alexander Ziegler and Marcel Lomnicky, both of Virginia Tech, joined Henning on the medal stand.

Shallow resumes competition Saturday with his final event, shot put. Throws begin at 11:40 a.m. CDT with live results and video streaming available from LionSports.net.

“I hope he can use some of the aggression from Friday's poor performance, channel it in the right direction, and do well in the shot,” head coach Sean Brady said. “He's now a shot putter. I'm pretty optimistic about his chances.”

Shallow's fourth place effort in discus earned him All-American honors, what he called the biggest accomplishment of his athletic career. Earlier, he was named South Central Region Field Athlete of the Year by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. Plus, he claimed Southland Conference Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Year thanks to three event victories at the league's championship meet.

“I was hoping for two All-American performances out of this meet and that's still in reach,” assistant coach Brian Mondschein said. “We're looking forward to Saturday. I'm looking for big things.”

The Kingstown, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, native holds Southeastern school records in three events, including shot put. His best heave came during the NCAA East Preliminary Round two weeks ago, going 60 feet, 11.25 inches (18.57 meters), making him the seventh ranked competitor entering Saturday's contest.
