COMPLETE RESULTS

STORIES: THURSDAY | FRIDAY | SATURDAY

GREENSBORO, N.C.
After earning a spot in hammer throw Thursday, Southeastern Louisiana senior Adonson Shallow assured himself a place in the shot put competition at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships, finishing in third place at the East Preliminary Round at Irwin Belk Track on Friday. Saturday, Shallow will attempt to advance in discus.

Ranked 11th regionally in shot put entering the meet, Shallow unleashed the best toss of his career on the biggest stage. On his third throw, he registered a mark of 60 feet, 11.25 inches (18.57 meters), to break his own school record. The throw moved him into second place. The top 12 move on to nationals in Eugene, Oregon, so with a spot assured, Shallow opted to pass on his final three attempts. He'd eventually fall to third place, behind Florida's Kemal Mesic and Penn State's Blake Eaton.

Shallow will compete in discus Saturday, looking to accomplish a personal mission of qualifying for nationals in three events. He comes in ranked fifth nationally, and first among throwers in the eastern region. Shallow's best effort came on May 1 at the Northwestern State Invitational, marked at 196 feet, 1 inch (59.77 meters). That is also a Southeastern record.

After qualifying for the 24th and final spot in the 400 meter hurdles quarterfinals, senior Adlus Wiltz was able to move up the regional standings, but not into the semifinals. Wiltz took 19th place, finishing in a time of 52.50 seconds.

Junior Shannon Grover had an incredibly gutsy performance, running the 200 meter dash prelims despite suffering an injury in Thursday's 100 meter dash. He ran the race in 21.37 seconds, putting him in 27th place, just outside of where he needed to be to move into Saturday's quarterfinals. The top 24 athletes advanced.

The storied college career of senior Cory Roberts came to a close Friday, with a 35th place finish in the 110 meter hurdles. He covered the distance in 14.44 seconds. Roberts claimed back-to-back Southland Conference decathlon championships in 2009 and 2010, in addition to the league's 2009 student-athlete of the year honor and numerous other awards.

Sophomore Lacey Sanchez cleared her first height in the pole vault competition at 11 feet, 9.75 inches (3.6 meters), but couldn't go any higher. She had to settle for a 34th place finish.

Saturday brings the final day of regional competition on the campus of North Carolina A&T. Shallow opens the proceedings with men's discus at 9:30 a.m. Men's triple jump follows at 12 noon, featuring junior Michael Rheams. Grover is slated to return for the 4x100 meter relay at 6 p.m., along with freshman Malcolm Carter, senior Rocky Caruth and junior Jerel Butler.
