Construction Continues on New Track

HAMMOND -- Southeastern Louisiana's new track and field facility continues to taking shape at the corner of North Oaks Street and Tennessee Avenue on campus. While there is still plenty of work to do, it is easy to picture the finished product, which will be the new home of the Lions and Lady Lions.
“It means everything to our program,” head coach Sean Brady said. “Once we have the facility, I don't know why we can't go head-to-head with everybody and bring in the state's top recruits.”
Southeastern teams currently train inside Strawberry Stadium. The new facility will allow the track program to have its own space and host meets, something Southeastern has not been able to do in recent years. This will be a NCAA certified track with eight lanes.
“Our student-athletes will be able to compete at home in front of their peers and their families,” Brady said. “It's a tremendous advantage. We'll be in the rotation to host the conference meet. What an amazing advantage it will be to sleep in your own bed and then go compete.”

The project is expected to be complete by Spring 2011.
