OXFORD, Miss. - In a day with plenty of highlights for the Nicholls State University women's track and field team, junior distance runner Kadi Whisnantprovided the biggest one. The Baton Rouge native bettered her own school record in the 3,000 m steeplechase, shattering her two week old school record by 34.55 seconds at the Ole Miss Invitational on Saturday.

Whisnant set a new school record in her specialty event for the second time this season, clocking in at 10:55.91, behind only Staci Nelson of Missouri State. Whisnant's time beat a school record she set two weeks ago at the prestigious FSU Relays when she clocked in at 11:29.46. The St. Michael the Archangel product's school record time beat all marks in the Southland Conference heading into this weekend's competition.

The Colonels also got a surprising performance from Tiffany Nall in the 200 m dash. Nall clocked in with a time of 24.99, despite a -0.5 headwind. Her time makes her just the seventh woman in the conference to qualify for the league championships in the 200 m, and marks the third best time in school history.

In the field events, Leslie Bourgeois narrowly missed out on her second javelin win of the season, finishing second with a throw of 42.60 m. Close behind Bourgeois was freshman Aja Scott, who turned in a career best throw of 41.03 m, the first time in her career that she passed the 40 m mark.

The Colonels will now return to Louisiana to prepare for the 2010 LSU Alumni Gold on Saturday April 17.
