Michael Rheams and Judith Schultheis each won an event and finished second in another as part of the Southeastern Louisiana effort at the South Alabama Invitational track and field meet Saturday. Overall, the Lions and Lady Lions combined to win 11 events and register nine runner-up finishes.

Rheams won the triple jump competition with a mark of 50 feet, 2.76 inches (15.31 meters). In the long jump, he flew a season-best 23 feet, 5.1 inches (7.14 meters), good for second place.

Schultheis set a personal best in earning a victory in the 100 meter hurdles, needing only 13.98 to negotiate the distance. Her runner-up performance came in the triple jump, where she was beaten out by Southeastern teammate Michelle Ogashi. Ogashi covered 38 feet, 9.75 inches (11.83 meters), while Schultheis was marked at 37 feet, 0.09 inches (11.28 meters).

Adlus Wiltz was the top collegian in the men's 400 meter hurdles (51.54), topped only by unattached athlete Patrick Lee (51.06). Once all of this week's times are registered, Wiltz is expected to be ranked in the national top 20 in the event.

The men's high jump included a three-way tie for first place, with Southeastern's Chris Robinson in the mix. His leap of 6 feet, 7.92 inches (2.03 meters), was matched by Troy's Larry Henry and unattached athlete Babatunde Babalola, a former Lion.

There was also a tie in the women's pole vault event. Lacey Sanchez's top mark of 11 feet, 5.8 inches (3.50 meters), was identical to the best one registered by South Alabama's Shannon Stever. In men's pole vault, Kovey Simmons captured the event title all for himself, clearing 14 feet, 11.13 inches (4.55 meters).

Adonson Shallow continued his amazing season with wins in discus and hammer throw. His top discus toss was 189 feet, 5.62 inches (57.75 meters). Shallow's best mark in hammer was 210 feet, 11.89 inches (64.31 meters), topping teammate Faisal Muhammad's second place throw of 176 feet, 4.93 inches (53.77 meters).

Jerel Butler, Malcolm Carter, Rocky Caruth and Shannon Grover teamed up to win the men's 4x100 meter relay in 40.60 seconds, edging Troy (40.86). The 4x400 meter relay team took second (3:11.91), a 10th of a second behind Alabama State (3:11.81).

The men's 3000 meter steeplechase saw Kalphys Kemboi win in dominant fashion. The senior from Eldama Ravine, Kenya, needed only 9:40.12 to finish the race, defeating his closest competitor by over 30 seconds.

Dorcus Kapkiai and Naomi Jeruto gave the Lady Lions a one-two punch in the 5000 meter run. Kapkiai finished first with a time of 18:46.21. Nearly half a minute later, Jeruto captured second place, completing the event in 19:13.02.

Other runners-up included Carter (men's 200 meter dash), Butler (men's 400 meter dash), Renada Living (women's hammer throw) and Shalicia Rochon (women's shot put).
