LSU LAST CHANCE QUALIFIER: Breaking Down the Running Events

Watch the LSU Last Chance Qualifier LIVE on MileSplit LA

It's the best meet of the year! Why? The best of the best will be in the Carl Maddox Fieldhouse on Saturday for LSU's Last Chance Qualifier. The state championships will be in a little over two weeks, but then best will be split into two divisions. Not Saturday.

Saturday, the best athletes in Louisiana high school track and field will run, jump, and throw...together. Let's break down the running events.

The Sprints

On the boys' side, the Rummel Raiders have the top two fastest high school athletes in all of Louisiana. Senior Micah Green, who has already broken one meet record this year, is No. 1 with a season best of 6.82.

Of course, it helps Green to be able to go to practice every day and be pushed by the second fastest high school sprinter in Louisiana--his teammate, junior, Jaden Terrance.

The dynamic duo are two of the three sprinters in Louisiana who have broken the 7.0 barrier. The only other sprinter to break the 7.0 barrier in the 60m is Jesuit Ja'ir Burks, who has clocked a 6.97.

Looking for young talent in the sprints? Check out sophomore Chauncey Wilkins from Huntington. Wilkins is coming off his first win of 2026 at the McNeese Indoor No. 2 where he edged out Airline junior Braylon Bryant. Both were credited for a time of 6.61 in the 55m, but Wilkins was given the nod by the head finish judge.

On the girls side, there are a few sophomore sensations to keep an eye on. At the top of the rankings is Walker's Nyla Riggins, who posted the state's leading time of 7.73 at the LSU High School Classic.

At No. 2 is Liberty Magnet's Destiny Harrison, who is also a sophomore. Harrison ran her season best of 7.75 at the LSU HS Qualifier, where she defeated Riggins in their last meeting.

It's going to be fun to watch these two go at it.

Don't think that we are automatically going to assign them the top two spots on the podium. We have our eye on a few others who could end up on the podium including two from Warren Easton-- Dai'jah Robertson (7.78) and Kynnedi Morris (7.86).

Robertson and Morris are both juniors and are no strangers to big-time competition having both qualified for the finals of the 60m at the 2025 LHSAA State Indoor Meet. Another junior to watch is Ouachita's Gabriella Glover (7.76)
