South Alabama Meet Next for Southeastern Track

Michelle Ogashi was the runner-up in triple jump at Louisiana Tech's Jim Mize Invitational

HAMMOND After some of their top performers competed in the Texas Relays last week, the entire Southeastern Louisiana men's and women's track teams will be back together for the South Alabama Invitational in Mobile on Saturday.

The men, ranked No. 50 by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, are led by Adonson Shallow. He has established himself as one of the top overall throwers in the country, regularly breaking his own school records in shot put and hammer throw. Plus, he is just shy of the discus record. This weekend, Shallow will enter the javelin competition for the first time in his Southeastern career.

Lined up alongside some of the nation's best athletes, Adlus Wiltz earned a top 10 finish in Austin, crossing the finish line ninth in the 400 meter hurdles (53.29). He'll look to improve upon that time in Mobile, while also taking his usual spot as the anchor for Southeastern 4x400 meter relay team.

On the women's side, Yvette Schubert is coming off another solid performance at the Texas Relays. She captured seventh place, sending the spear 147 feet, 11 inches (45.10 meters) to its final destination. That improved upon her previous season-best by over six feet, an effort that won her an event title a week prior at Louisiana Tech.

Michelle Ogashi enters the USA Invitational as the Lady Lions' lone jumper. Last time out, she finished second in Ruston in triple jump, with her best mark at 38 feet, 4.75 inches (11.7 meters). She also took seventh in long jump, thanks to a leap of 17 feet, 4.25 inches (5.29 meters).

Jaguar Track will host the field events starting at 9:45 a.m., followed by running events at 11:30 a.m.

Updating an injury from last week's meet, decathlete Cory Roberts is considered day-to-day, and is expected to be fully recovered in time for the Southland Conference Outdoor Championships May 14-16. Roberts won the league's decathlon title in 2009.
