GRACE KEENE (10) COMPETES AT AN INDOOR MEET IN 2025
Northshore sophomore Grace Keene made her first appearance of the 2026 indoor season at the LSU High School Qualifier. Keene won the 1600m with a state-leading time of 5:50.90.
Keene was recently named Louisiana's Gatorade Player of the Year for cross country after winning the LHSAA Division I state cross country championship in November with a three mile time of 17:21.70.
In that state championship, Keene beat the defending champion-Baton Rouge Magnet's Lucy Thomas (18:11.10), who finished third behind.
It was Thomas who provided the competition on Saturday for Keene. Thomas-competing in the season-opening race of her senior season- finished with a time of 5:07.
Only three sophomores have ever run faster than Keene did on Saturday morning. One of those runners is Thomas, who has the No. 2 time on the Louisiana all-time for sophomore girls. Parkview Baptist's Lucy Cramer has the No. 1 time with her 4:57.30 at last year's LSU Last Chance Qualifier.
Nationally, Keene's time currently ranks No. 21 among all sophomore girls.
